Randy, a year younger, was the comedian of the pack, known for his quick thinking, wisecracks, and smart mouth. He had more common sense than Brad but was not immune to trouble. Mark was somewhat of a mama's boy, though later in the series he grew into a teenage outcast who dressed in black clothing. Meanwhile, Brad became interested in cars like his father and took up soccer. Randy joined the school drama club and later the school newspaper; in the eighth season, he left for Costa Rica.

Have requested only the owner or the representative who met w/us and not Daniel to meet with us for further discussions, work supervision and to pick up the final payment upon satisfactory completion of work. This has been one of the most aggrivating experiences we've ever had with a contractor.
Therefore, the producers set out to cast an alternate character that would stand in as Tim's co-host for the pilot, or for however many episodes were required until Tobolowsky was available. Residential carpenters typically specialize in new-home, townhome, and condominium building and remodeling. As part of a single job, they might build and set forms for footings, walls and slabs, and frame and finish exterior walls, roofs, and decks. Originally, the project's proposed title was Hammer Time, both a play on the catchphrase made popular by artist MC Hammer and the name of the fictional fix-it show within the series, which was also called Hammer Time. By the time ABC committed to the project in early 1991, Allen and his team had already changed the title to Home Improvement. The show hosted by Tim Taylor in the shooting script for Home Improvement was still called Hammer Time when the first pilot with Frances Fisher was filmed in April 1991. The catalyst for the series' name change was to represent the aspect of fixing problems within the family and home life, as well as the use of mechanics and tools. Once the second phase of the pilot was produced, with all the actors that made the final cut into the series , Tim Taylor's Hammer Time became Tool Time. The two-story home has four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a black bottom pool in the backyard. Notably, there is no buzzer, per the Washington Post, and the mailbox out front is a little miniature version of the home itself, which is a very Simmons-esque touch. “I want my friend back in my life the way he used to be,” says Jones, who has to rely on Simmons’ housekeeper Reveles for updates.
But, as the documentary details, Simmons abruptly stopped teaching at the studio in February 2014 without providing an explanation. "Thank you, everyone, for your kindness and love! Love, Richard," read the message, which was posted next to a photo of a smiling emoji holding a "Thank you" sign. He recently sold his long-time Beverly Hills home for $16 million and just listed his Vegas crib for $15 million. In May 2017, he sued the National Enquirer, Radar Online, and American Media, Inc. for libel and false claims that he was undergoing gender reassignment. In September 2017, Simmons lost the lawsuit, and was ordered to pay the defendants' attorney's fees.
After traversing LA, and unable to find a facility welcoming people of all shapes and sizes, his only alternative was to create that safe haven. He opened his studio SLIMMONS in Beverly Hills, where he continued to teach classes and host inspirational seminars until 2013. Simmons’ success as a fitness expert and advocate led to numerous local and national television and radio appearances including a four-year run on “General Hospital”, followed by his own nationally syndicated series, “The Richard Simmons Show”. As previously mentioned, Richard Simmons has been a recluse ever since 2014 when he closed his famed fitness studio and shut himself up in his Los Angeles mansion. While there are various debunked rumors about the reasoning for his isolation — for example, Simmons' estate sued the National Enquirer and Radar Online for publishing stories that he was transitioning, per NBC — many close friends, who miss him, think he just needed a break. The 74-year-old fitness guru shared a message with fans just days after the premiere of a new TMZ documentary about his disappearance from the spotlight.

In August 2022, in response to continued rumors and a TMZ documentary What Really Happened to Richard Simmons claiming that knee problems forced Simmons out of public life, Simmons issued a statement to the New York Post that he "is happy, healthy, and living the life he has chosen to live."

He later opened his own exercise studio, originally called The Anatomy Asylum, where emphasis was placed on healthy eating in proper portions and enjoyable exercise in a supportive atmosphere. The business originally included a salad bar restaurant called Ruffage, a pun on the word roughage , though it was eventually removed as the focus of The Anatomy Asylum shifted solely to exercise. Later renamed "Slimmons", the establishment continued operations in Beverly Hills and Simmons taught motivational classes and aerobics throughout the week. If there's anyone who knows about self-isolating, it's Richard Simmons, and he most certainly has the digs to stay comfortable while doing so. Simmons, who has reportedly not been seen by friends or family since 2014, recently started posting old workout videos to his YouTube channel amidst the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, renewing interest in his whereabouts.
